Amazon.com Partners Up With Chase To Boost Kindle

I don’t know about you, but I am an Amazon regular. I check Amazon.com on a daily basis for the latest books and other bargains that they might have. If you have checked Amazon today, you have probably seen the promotional offer for Amazon’s eBook reader (Amazon Kindle) that is prominently displayed on the front page on Amazon. It reads as below:

Thanks to Chase, you can get $100 off Kindle when you get the NEW Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card Instantly.

Amazon Kindle is a very popular but expensive gadget, so I decided to check the new Amazon.com Rewards card to find out what’s changed with it that makes this whole offer attractive:

The new cards has improved in quite a few areas:

  • Points: the old Amazon credit card gave 1 point for every dollar spent and 3 points for every dollar spent on Amazon. The new Amazon credit card comes with an introductory double points offer. So you will get 6 points per dollar spent on Amazon! But more importantly, after the introductory offer is over, you still get 2 points per dollar spent in restaurants and gas stations.
  • Rewards Structure: the old Amazon credit card was very limited in the rewards department. You could only redeem points via Amazon gift certificates. The new card gives you airline miles, cash, or flight tickets in addition to gift certificates.

Overall, the new Amazon credit card is a major upgrade over the old credit card. If you are a heavy Amazon spender, you may want to consider applying for Amazon Visa card as the points do add up quickly. The potential $100 discount is attractive as well. But the main problem still remains in a very high variable APR of 13.99-19.99%. So don’t plan on parking balances, if you do get this card.
